In order to make significant advances in the performance of our electric race car, we aimed for a completely new development with the eace08. Every assembly was therefore revised without sacrificing reliability. We are sure that there is even more potential in the concept, which we intend to show next year.

Monocoque

Compared with previous years, our new monocoque has a significantly raised nose that greatly improves underbody airflow. Revised powertrain packaging enabled the implementation of a narrower rear end. Also new is the damper packaging, as well as axle kinematics and all tie-down points. Improved ergonomics, including above all the new CFRP/ aramid hybrid seat, round off the chassis development for the eace08.

Aerodynamics

Chantal's aerodynamic package was developed through thousands of CFD simulations, exclusively in cornering, to be particularly insensitive to different driving positions. The result is a complete new front wing, underbody and rear wing, for which around 3.5m^3 of mold was milled and hundreds of square meters of fibers were laid. Special highlights are the front wing mainplane produced with a 5-piece mold, into which flow-optimized connections were later inserted, our one-piece underbody, which with its multi-part mold just barely fit into the autoclave, and the rear wing connection via a mono gooseneck. The result is a downforce of around 1100N at 16 m/s (58 km/h) and a downforce loss of less than 5% per 5° yaw rate.

Drivetrain

In various test bench runs, a total of 5 different battery cells were tested as single cells & in packs for their thermal and electrical properties. A total of 288 of the selected cells were then installed in a fiber composite container, monitored by our new, self-developed battery management system. With up to 80 kW drive line (limited by the regulations) and 80 kW recuperation, we discharge and unload our 600V high-voltage battery during the race, which is air-cooled in the process. For the optimal design, we have carried out a thermal complete vehicle CFD simulation including the battery. Via the 4 wheel hub motors, in connection with the new coupled planetary gearbox, we can provide a maximum torque of about 1300Nm at the wheel. The gearboxes represent another innovation on the eace08. Through a concept change and increased manufacturing precision, we have saved a total of 7kg in weight and 42mm in radial and 33mm in axial installation space.
